District Information
Tahquamenon Area Schoosl (TAS), home of the Newberry Indians, is located in Newberry, Michigan. TAS is geographically, the largest school district east of the Mississippi River covering, 1,524 square miles. The district consists of Newberry Area Schools for grades K-12. Enrollment of the district is approximately 620 students . Transportation is provided by the district to all students who live outside the village of Newberry.
Newberry Area School boasts highly trained teachers. Intervention is offered to every Kindergarten through sixth grade student as needed. It’s a tiered program designed to best suit the needs of each student at their individual academic level.
We have an updated curriculum and materials aligned with the common core for grades K-12. The curriculum provides practical problem sovling skills and includes on-line materials.
Newberry Area School exceeds all Michigan Merit graduation requirements. Our secondary level offers honors courses in all core subjects including many AP courses. We also offer Dual-Enrollment courses for college credit at no cost to families. This allows students to acquire college credit while still in high school. Classrooms are equipped with Chromebooks for each student. Teachers are trained as Google Educators. Finally, we have a large selection of elective courses on-line which allows students the freedom to take courses that are aligned with their interests and career goals.
Tahquamenon Area Schools offers several athletic options for students. These offerings include boys’ and girls’ Cross Country, JV and Varsity Football, girls’ JV and Varsity Volleyball, boys’ and girls’ JV and Varsity Basketball, Wrestling, boys’ and girls’ Track, Golf, Baseball and Softball. Middle School teams include Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Track and Wrestling. All TAS athletes are responsible for activity and transportation fees in order to participate. The district has an active sports booster organization as well.
