Second graders have been busy! We had more students join our "1000s Club", we wrapped up our letter writing unit with mailing letters home to our families, painted pumpkins that were donated to our class by Yooper Youth, and added our classwork to our hallway for a festive look! 🎃👻✏️📫

Patterning, bat craft and painting our journal covers were the order of the day in kindergarten.

Fun Friday in Kindergarten creating monsters using our fine motor skills! 😈👀

Mava Yenna is a 6th grade student at Newberry who has been selected as this week’s Student of the Week by Mrs. Frank. She is in Mrs. Franks’ homeroom for science and social studies. Mava is an excellent student, working hard academically to reach our class goals. She is always polite and respectful to staff and students and makes friends easily. Through school work and friendships her positive attitude and cheerful personality are always highlighted in the choices she makes and the interactions she has. It has been a pleasure to have Mava in 6th grade, and I’m excited to continue this year with her!

Scholarship Opportunity for students Pursuing Healthcare Career
In celebration of this year’s upcoming National Rural Health Day, recognized on November 21st, the Literacy Legacy Fund of Michigan, the Michigan Center for Rural Health (Michigan's State Office of Rural Health) and the Northern Michigan University Center for Rural Health, are partnering, once again, to sponsor and extend this essay contest to all high school seniors who reside and attend school in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, are college/university bound in fall 2025, and intend to pursue a healthcare career. Students meeting these criteria are eligible to enter the contest regardless of what college or university they enroll in next fall.
The deadline to enter is November 8th, 2024 and winners will be announced on November 21st.
Cash prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners elected in each of the Eastern, Central and Western regions of the Upper Peninsula. 1st place winners will receive $500, 2nd place winners will receive $250 and 3rd place winners will receive $100. Winners will be notified the third week in November.
The concept behind the National Rural Health Day Essay Contest is to shed light on a particular health related topic that impacts the health and well-being of Upper Peninsula residents. High school seniors who are on track to enroll in any college or university of their choice and intend to enter the future healthcare workforce are then prompted to think and write about potential ideas and solutions from their perspective.
You can find more information regarding the essay contest by going to National Rural Health Day Essay Contest | Center for Rural Health (nmu.edu).
