Kindergarten Families:
We have had an influx of new students to our school and many of them are kindergarten students. This is fantastic news for our district! However, research shows that smaller class sizes (15-18 students) is optimal for the first few years of a child’s education. They are the foundational years and students are able to learn and grow more when the teacher to student ratio is smaller.
We currently have two kindergarten sections and each class has 24 students. This number is not ideal and we feel that adding a third section of kindergarten is what would be best for all of our kindergarten students. This idea was proposed to the Board of Education at Monday night’s board meeting and was approved. Starting this week we will begin putting the plan in motion to create a third section of kindergarten.
This transition will take a few weeks to complete and we are anticipating our third section will begin close to the end of the first marking period. Each of the three sections will have 16 students. At this point, we have not determined who will be in what class. Please know that some students will remain with the teacher they currently have and other students will be moving to have a different teacher. We will be using the same procedure to place students as we do each summer. We will be doing our best to balance all three classes based on gender, behavior patterns, and academic achievement.
Please watch for more information to be coming home as we have updated information and decisions are made. Making a change a quarter of the way through the school year is not ideal. However, in this case, the benefit of having smaller class sizes and being able to provide your students with a more optimal learning environment outweighs the challenge of change. We will be utilizing our K-6 Counselor to assist students in adjusting to these changes.

Unity Day - October 18, 2023
Both Mr. Hayes Duck Bus students and Mr. Bliss' Horse Bus students may arrive home a little earlier now. Each bus will only be taking one bus run in the afternoons beginning today Oct. 11, 2023.

There will be no school on Monday, October 9, 2023. This is for a regional professional development day. Districts in the EUPISD will be at Lake Superior State University for the day learning with other teachers in the region.
